Lazer or Engraved - Plaques

Laser or rotary engraved plaques are suitable for different types of properties with plaques and nameplate environments generally considered a more permanent sign solution.
Engraving generally offers a proven method and is to be considered the ultimate way of producing permanent, long lasting signs. Engraving into a variety of substrates using computer-generated systems uses a variety of processes:

What is Rotary engraving? ‐ A generic description of rotary engraving as used in the sign industry is an electric motor or spindle which allows a spinning or rotating tool or cutter to cut into selected material. The engraving process uses X-Y axis controllers mounted on a gantry to allow the spindle to travel across the worktable. The X-axis is the east to west, (across the table) horizontal movement of the engraving spindle. While the Y-axis is the north to south, front-to-back movements of the engraving spindle. Critical to the engraving or cutting process is the precise control of the Z-axis or the vertical or up & down movement of the engraving spindle. This process is the cutting or milling away of the selected substrate by the engraving tool. The engraving tool or cutter has a wider variety of cutter shapes and designs to facilitate cutting or milling.

What is Laser engraving? ‐ A generic description of laser engraving as used in the sign industry is a laser beam is generated form an energy source like a Co2 or other laser tube. This beam is intense and focused through a series of focus devices to concentrate the cutting power on the surface to either cut or etch the surface. Generally the laser beam is commonly sent from the sign making software via either vector or raster to cut or engrave.
The most common equipment features an X-Y gantry housing the focusing devices onto a worktable area where the engraved plate is placed. The X-Y gantry moves across the worktable area while the laser beam is directed onto the substrate to be engraved.

Engraved Nameplates and Plaques offer that prestigious look and can be supplied for opening commemorative plaques, memorial plaques, award plates, nameplates and badges as well as directional signage. A variety of materials include, but not limited to engraving laminate, Acrylic panels, Composite sheet and a host of specific laser and rotary engraving substrates. There are other premium engraving materials like bronze, brass, aluminium, zinc, stainless steel and specialised products which are more suitable to rotary engraving than laser engraving.

Permanent long-term identification – Rotary Engraved plaques Brass:
Engraved brass plaques give an everlasting record of an important occasion and remain as one of the best materials and most popular types of opening ceremonial plaques. Although brass will tarnish in time and black speckles will appear aging the plaque into a “Patina” finish, this feature gives each plaque its unique character, reflecting its age. Brass plaques can however be refurnished and brought back to “as new” if required by sanding and re-painting. Finishing options include:

  • A linished or metal brushed finish comes after the engraving has been done, the plaque is then sanded to show a fine grain running horizontally.
  • A polished plaque is usually only suitable for a more protected environment, as they require more maintenance and will tarnish quicker without a clear lacquer coating.

Stainless Steel: A very hardwearing and durable material. Although stainless steel is very good for external use it is also a little more difficult to get the same engraving depth compared to brass and aluminium. It is available in the following options;
